Australia’s Referendum Preview

We were assigned by TRT World News to produce a 3-minute feature previewing Australia’s contentious Referendum on the Voice to Parliament.

The Australian referendum regarding the Voice to Parliament was a proposed amendment to the Australian Constitution. If passed, it would have mandated the creation of an official body known as “The Voice,” which is envisioned to represent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The primary role of this body would be to provide advice and input on matters concerning Indigenous Australians to the Parliament and Government of Australia. The aim of the referendum was to ensure that Indigenous Australians have a formal and ongoing role in the legislative processes that affect their lives, thus recognizing their unique position as the first inhabitants of the continent and promoting a shared sense of national unity.

The Australian people subsequently voted ‘no’.

This preview was produced for TRT World using exisiting footage and new footage shot by Stormydog.
